5/14/2019 1 Comment Final Review and ReflectionThroughout the course of the year I had many artistic challenges. At the beginning I couldn't really create any original art because I didn't have any ideas but as the year went on my head was become more full with ideas. An aspect of this class that I would change would be to maybe give more ideas on what we can create rather than making us do a certain unit. I think we should have an option to do a unit like the AP kids. I understand if someone is on their phones and they need direction but with the ones who take the time to develop their own skills I think should always have the option to opt out of a unit if they're already working on a different piece.
I really liked that when I started a piece I could finish it within the week. Like my acrylic pours I could do the pour on Monday and finish what I wanted to do with the piece by Friday. I also really liked the hand piece I did. I believe it was apart of the splitting unit and I did heaven/hell holding hands. I’m really proud of that piece and glad I did it. I have gotten into to using paint markers and now understand why they are so frustrating. They work only sometimes and after you use them for awhile you have to wait a couple days for the ink to seep back into the pen and overall its very annoying. I have enjoyed making art with them very much and have included photos of some funky art I've done with them so far. I also started working on a n embroidery canvas that I don't know when I'll finish. It takes forever to embroider on the canvas especially since it's fragile and if you pull too hard you can rip the canvas. My final thoughts are that I really enjoyed this year's art class and enjoyed the freedom I had in creating art. I had free reign and could do whatever came to mind which I thought was very nice. I will definitely miss being in the art room all the time and sharing memories with my class and Ms. Haggerty.

3/25/2019 0 Comments March Blog PostThis month has been pretty rough. Between homework and trying to stay on top in all of my classes my artistic flow was practically snapped in half. I haven't been creating as much art and seem to be in a sort of artist block. I hope to get back to my usual flow once the new quarter starts and hopefully some good grades as well for the last quarter. I worked on not a lot of different things during this month and a lot of that was due to having no inspiration or motivation to be exact. I created some original art by following a Bob Ross painting video which ended up OK. I wish I had done the reflection on the water a little better and I think a lot of that was due to the fact that I used acrylic paint instead of oil paints like Bob Ross did. I also did an acrylic pour on some light covers for my room which turned out pretty awesome. I solved a big problem of the paint cracking on the switch by adding a gloss layer which seems to have worked pretty well. I tried to do some bubble art which didn't go as planned but I took some risks when blowing the bubble being careful that I didn't suck in and drink bubble paint water. I hope next month goes smoother and I relax a little and I hope to create better art.
2/11/2019 1 Comment February Blog PostThroughout the month of february, so far i have only done a couple pieces. I'm trying to finish a collaborative piece using news paper clipping from the new yorker magazine and some other useful clipping from maps and text books to make my collage look realistic. It's not really going how I planned so i'm putting aside for the time being. I want to observe my skills of collaborating acrylic paint and the collage to make something realistic but also interpretive. I accidentally rushed into using the acrylic causing my art to become less life like and more of a burnt hand. I want to solve this problem by taking my time and mixing some paints to a more skin toned color making my piece more realistic. I also created this yellow canvas with a sun on it and if you put light in the back of it it will show a quote from a twenty one pilots song that I love. I don't really know cursive that well but my friend Emma helped me in creating the words on the other side of the canvas. This was a tricky piece of art because I either had to write backwards or possibly cause a tear in the canvas by writing it on the front and erasing it as i painted it in the back. I went with the easier way of writing the quote on the front and painting it in the back which i think worked really well. Right now i want to start embroidery because I love and and its fun. I plan on doing a couple characters from a show called Steven Universe which i've been obsessed with for awhile now. I plan on doing just a bust of the characters because if i did the whole body it wouldn't look right and take up too much time. I have only done a sketch so far and plan on working on this for awhile until i get bored or come up with another idea.
1/15/2019 1 Comment January Blog PostThroughout the last couple of months I have been working on a lot of projects. First I made my mom a vase for christmas and she really loved it. I have also collaborated with my friend Emma in painting the condiment cart for the cafeteria which took us around 2 days complete. I also worked on my tile that is now on the ceiling and solved a big problem from when I accidentally broke the tile in the process of doing the acrylic pour. With my other pours that I did earlier as a sort or practice, I made then into different types of aliens. One is an angel, one is a devil and one is just a regular alien. I also tried to make a reindeer one which ended up looking kind of like a moose. We also started a project that has to do with boundaries and i'm doing mine on either heaven and hell or ice and fire, I haven't decided yet.
12/17/2018 1 Comment December Blog PostThis past month I have been working a lot on my acrylic pour. I really enjoy how easy it is to make a beautiful piece of art that looks different no matter the others you choose. Although out of the 8 or so of the pours that i've done, only 4 have survived because I didn't cover every corner of the canvas, but that just makes them unique. I'm trying to make a good set of these pours because with 5 or 6 of the pours i've done rainbow colors and they've all turned out really awesome looking. So far i've done a reindeer and an alien which i'm absolutely obsessed with the alien. The reindeer could look better though and that's what I think i need to develop my skill more on, is the overall silhouette of a subject. I also collaborated on my reindeer painting because I asked if it actually looked like a reindeer and if I could improve on it somehow and all of the feedback I got was positive. I've also made a batique which I still need to iron the rest of the wax out before I can call it done. It was supposed to be the sun but ended up turning into a sunflower.
11/20/2018 0 Comments November Blog PostThis month i was working on a lot of different projects. I finished my pumpkin and glazed it with an orange glaze and i also colored my skull with different colored glazes. I created original art by creating my own colors with the skull. I also started a new project which was acrylic pour. I developed the skill of creating different consistencies and ratios of the paint to water to gloss medium. I absolutely loved doing acrylic pour and in the future I plan to make different color combinations and ratios of the acrylic.
10/19/2018 0 Comments October Blog PostThrough these past 2 weeks I have been working on a lot of pottery. At first I wanted to begin with something super simple so I did a pumpkin and once I sculpted it, it became green ware and I used green and orange glaze to make it like a pumpkin. Throughout making this pumpkin (for Halloween) I learned how to carve a face from the clay with the wire tool and I think it helped me a lot in learning new techniques on carving. With the clay we also did a skull project which included 2 pinch pots that we learned how to do last year that you put together to make a 3D skull. I decorated my skull using a circular cutting tool to make the eyes and a small round tool to make the small circular indents. I still need to glaze and fire the skull. I solved a lot of problems the beginning of this process (skull) because it was really hard getting the clay into the right form and eventually I got a skull shape I liked. Another project we did was a homework assignment which was 10 blind contours. I communicated using these drawing by allowing the students from my class to give their opinions on the drawing which were mostly good. The last project I did was I started a painting using acrylic paints which, so far, is of a girl wearing overalls and a cream colored shirt underneath. The finished product will hopefully have her be wearing a vase as a helmet with flowers coming out of her body. 9/27/2018 1 Comment September Blog PostI created original art by combining two mediums into one whole art project. These past couple weeks we started and finished our unoccupied space project which had us take a photo or work from a pile of object where we had to trace everything but the unoccupied space. In the blank spaces I included cut outs from the new yorker magazine which provided me with a lot of colorful images and designs. I also created line variation using a sharpie and a black pen. I collaborated with my classmates on what to improve on on this project. We also started a new project which included wetting a paper bag and putting different colored inks on to it to make a brand new piece of paper to work off of. I hope to use conte crayons and charcoal pencils to make my art original.
