10/19/2018 0 Comments October Blog PostThrough these past 2 weeks I have been working on a lot of pottery. At first I wanted to begin with something super simple so I did a pumpkin and once I sculpted it, it became green ware and I used green and orange glaze to make it like a pumpkin. Throughout making this pumpkin (for Halloween) I learned how to carve a face from the clay with the wire tool and I think it helped me a lot in learning new techniques on carving. With the clay we also did a skull project which included 2 pinch pots that we learned how to do last year that you put together to make a 3D skull. I decorated my skull using a circular cutting tool to make the eyes and a small round tool to make the small circular indents. I still need to glaze and fire the skull. I solved a lot of problems the beginning of this process (skull) because it was really hard getting the clay into the right form and eventually I got a skull shape I liked. Another project we did was a homework assignment which was 10 blind contours. I communicated using these drawing by allowing the students from my class to give their opinions on the drawing which were mostly good. The last project I did was I started a painting using acrylic paints which, so far, is of a girl wearing overalls and a cream colored shirt underneath. The finished product will hopefully have her be wearing a vase as a helmet with flowers coming out of her body.
